The tribute and celebration is for the arts community to honor an influential figure in dance. The event will include performances by the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Jones Haywood Dance School, Dance Institute of Washington and Showbiz Next Generation. Therrell Smith’s 100th Birthday is going to be an event you won’t want to miss.
Over the course of Therrell Smith’s nearly 75-year career, she instilled a love of the arts and awareness of the importance of physical activity to thousands of students. Several of her pupils have gone on to careers in dance, including prima ballerina Virginia Johnson, who is the current Artistic Director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Smith's desire to share the gift of an arts education with even more students compelled her to start a foundation in her parents' names to offer dance and movement classes to students in the D.C. Public Schools. Smith has had a long fulfilling life accomplishing her dream of educating youth in the arts. The event will not only focus on her 100th Birthday, but of her living legacy of excellence in the dance
community. Smith’s legacy of dance, arts and education will live on through her and the plethora of students she has taught. We welcome the entire arts community to come and celebrate DC’s living dance legend for all the lives she has touched. Please join us on November 4, 2017 at the University of the District of Columbia and November 5, 2017 at Unity DC! For additional information please contact Linda Smith at Biolin23@aol.com.
