Instituto Dara
Represented by Vera Cordeiro, founder

Founded in 1991, the Instituto Dara works to fight poverty and promote the well-being of socially vulnerable families in the areas of health, housing, income, civic participation and education.

The Institute has received several awards for its work, which has directly impacted the lives of more than 85,000 Brazilians and has been adopted as public policy in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

Mariel Reyes Milk & David Vélez

David is the founder and CEO of Nubank, one of the largest digital banking platforms in the world which revolutionized Brazil’s banking landscape. Mariel is founder and CEO of {reprograma}, a Brazilian social startup that teaches computer programming to low-income women and helps them break into the technology industry. Recently, the Latin American couple joined the Giving Pledge by committing to donate, during their lifetime, most of their assets to provide economic and educational opportunities for youth in Latin America.

Beatriz Nascimento Foundation

The Beatriz Nascimento Foundation was created to honor the legacy of the Brazilian academic and activist Beatriz Nascimento (1942-1995). Through arts and education, the foundation enriches knowledge of the history and culture of the global Afro-Brazilian diaspora. An important early voice of the Brazilian Black Movement, Beatriz pioneered Afro-Brazilian Studies; her research on quilombos in the colonial period was instrumental to Brazilian society’s understanding of Black history in Brazil.
