Dance Theatre of Harlem, Cutler Bay, FL

Perfomances:

Saturday, January 26, 8:00pm

Sunday, January 27, 3:00pm

The groundbreaking black classical dance troupe, whose visit last season – after a nearly 20-year absence – was such a powerful artistic and community event, returns to the Center. An inspiring force for an inclusive vision of ballet since it was founded by the legendary Arthur Mitchell in 1969, Dance Theatre of Harlem performs innovative classical, neo-classical and contemporary works that celebrate the beauty of ballet and of African-American culture.

This year’s program features a special performance of “Dougla,” choreographed by Geoffrey Holder. This piece will be a collaboration between DTH and The Peter London Global Dance Company, a local troupe recognized as South Florida’s leading professional multi-cultural contemporary dance company. The program’s entirety includes:
• “Vessels” choreographed by Darrell Grand Moultrie (contemporary ballet)
• “Le Corsaire Pas de Deux” by Petipa (classical tutu ballet)
• “Adagietto #5” by Royston Maldoon (striking and emotional ballet set to Mahler’s 5th Symphony)
• “Dougla” by Geoffrey Holder (exquisite pageantry)

Join a Pre-show Dance Talk with dance critic Jordan Levin & DTH artists on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 1:30 p.m in the Lab Theater. A post-show discussion with Jordan Levin will also take place at our Main Stage following the performances.
